TRUDY IS
BNBF NORTHERN MS FIGURE CHAMP!

I am now 8 weeks out from the British Finals where I'm hoping to get my Pro Figure card!  It would be a dream come true to win my Pro Card and compete internationally, so I'm putting my heart and soul into this competition prep.  If I don't win atleast I know I've done my best, I just hope whoever does win wants it as bad as I do and makes the most of the opportunity!

Check out the Gallery page for more pics of my win!!

29 January 2008

I have started the year off as I mean to go on (although, please don't hold me to it!).  I'm going to try my best to keep my site up to date as often as possible, especially once competition dieting really kicks in so I can share my ups and downs and my sleepless nights with you all!

I started to clean up my diet once I went back to work on 2nd January after a couple of months of over-indulging and a nice quiet Christmas tucked up in a nice cosy house hanging out with close friends (who are my family over here), my husband and some delicious food!

26 weeks out last weekend and I'm giving myself plenty of time to lose bodyfat, build lean muscle and come in as lean and hard as I can for this years comp.  I'm only doing the BNBF qualifier this year - focusing all my energy on the one federation - although if you're at an NPA qualifier keep an eye out for me I'll still be supporting everyone there.  To make it even better the BNBF have announced that this year at the British Finals they'll be giving the winner the first ever British Natural Figure Pro Card!  IT'S MINE!  This has totally got me amped up for the season and my workouts have been wicked.

My diet at the moment is really clean, getting in good lean protein and complex carbs with treats here and there on the weekends if I'm out and about (like at the movies!! yum yum!)  Once I figure out how to get photos off my phone and onto the computer I'll show you guys some of the 'yummy' (they look yummy... taste 'OK') meals that I've been making so you can see that it doesn't all have to be boring chicken and brocolli (..yet!)....

Don't forget to log ontothe BNBF Forum if you'd like to track my day-to-day training, moaning and random ramblings :o)

17 June 2007

Well, I think I need to look up the definition of 'coming soon' in the Oxford Dictionary!  Sorry folks, had full intentions of keeping things up to date, but time got away with me and I got caught up with training and boiling chicken!  Well I've had my first two shows of the year and I was more than pleased with the package I took to the stage.  My first show of the year was of course the NPA Yorkshire.  All I wanted to do was to qualify and improve 100% on my last stage showing.. goal achieved!  I had such a great day, I was really pleased with how I come in, I still could have been leaner, but definitly improved from last year.  Having been able to train legs this year has made a massive difference to my lower body too (aswell as my new boobs helping to balance things out).  I came 2nd at the Yorkshire and qualified for the NPA British Finals in October, so I have full aim on that show in the NPA, and won't do anymore qualifiers throughout the year.  Three weeks after the Yorkshire I stepped on stage in Glasgow for the BNBF Scottish qualifier.  I wasn't too happy with my condition at this show, I was hoping to come in leaner after the Yorkshire, with having 3 weeks to improve, but my body didn't want any of it and went on diet strike.  :o) I started back on the same diet straight after the Yorkshire (having a day off the diet on the Monday for my sanity and to celebrate my belated birthday).  Scales moved up as my body held onto every carb and water molecule it took in, the second week I tried carb cycling and that didn't happen, but then come the third week it was time for carb deplete - funnily enough I was almost looking forward to it!  Weirdo!! ha.  Came into the Scottish in a similar condition (so I thought) than the Yorkshire, but my quads were leaner from the front and seemed to be in not in as good a condition in the glutes - my period arrived the next day - so figure this was the culprit!  It wasn't due for another two weeks (sorry guys! girly chat alert!) but with everythingmy body was going through my hormones were a bit up the mixer I think.  Not to worry.

I came 2nd at the Scottish to a great seasoned competitor, and 2005 2nd in the world, Jenni Garside, who looked in great shape as usual.  Hopefully I can nail a similar (if not better) condition to her at the Finals and go one better than 2nd place. :o)

A big huge thanks to one of my very best friends Annie, who trapsed all the way up from London to be with me at both my shows, tanned me up and kept me sane!  I couldn't do it without her (or, if I did, I'd have one hell of a botch tan! he he).  My other dear friend Anita flew all the way over from Qatar for the Scottish qualifier and kept me company on the way up to Glasgow and was my hair and make up stylist for the day.. I was a right diva you know!  he he  She even had to put up with me singing along on the way up there (she even has video footage, so if I can figure out how to You Tube it.. I'll post it up).

Both Annie and Anita are prepping for their own shows this year, so I can't wait until I can be there for them and return the favours.  (Although, I don't think they'll want me doing their makeup, they might end up looking like Krusty the Clown...)

So I have had the last week off the diet and out of the gym, still doing a bit of cardio though with touch rugby and netball.  Getting ready to be back into my training tomorrow, back to the fun, heavy training that I love - and not on an empty stomach. he he.  I'll be doing all my weight training in the morning over the next couple of months, leaving my evenings free for netball, touch rugby and spending time with my husband while he's out of rugby season.

I'll be at the NPA North West in Birkenhead next weekend, so please go along and watch.  This is the first year for the North West qualifier, lets make it a successful one!  And don't be shy if you see me, come and say hello, I won't bite!  (..hard..)  :o)

Check out the Galleries page for some pics taken at the Yorkshire (couresty of Annie).  Once I get pics from the Scottish I'll post them up.

Take care all, train hard and eat clean!

I am pleased to announce my new sponsorship deal with Smart-Tec Performance Nutrition.

A big thanks to Steven Rinaldi and SMART-TEC PERFORMANCE NUTRITION who have asked me to come on board for the 2007 competition season. I was contacted towards the end of last year to be a part of the Smart-Tec team for 2007, and I feel privileged to be associated with such a great, up and coming brand.

I’ve been using Smart-Tec for some time now, they are top quality products, great tasting and have really helped me take my training to another level.

Here’s to a great 2007 competitive season! Hopefully I can do Smart-Tec and the rest of the team proud.

BOOB UPDATE:  12 days since the operation, I have had no bruising whatsoever and most of the stitches have already dissolved (I've never had stitches before, so have no idea if this is normal?).  Anyways, I've still a few more weeks of wearing the compression bra while they heal, and then I can go and buy lots of new lingerie etc.  How exciting!

26 December 2006

BOOB UPDATE:  The operation went extremely well, in fact I didn't feel a thing.  From the time I arrived at the clinic, the reception staff and nurses made me feel so comfortable, I felt like I had nothing to worry about.  In fact, I think I feel more nervous going to the dentist!  I was shown to my own little private room, where I changed into my operating gown and little blue paper shoes.  Shortly after, the surgeon come in to see me to go over what I was hoping to achieve (size) and to confirm placement of the implant, i.e. over/under the muscle.  Then he got out his marker and started drawing on me, took a few 'before' pictures, and then we were off to the operating theatre.  It was a few days before Christmas, and they had a radio in there playing Christmas songs.. how fabulous!  I lay on the table while they prepped me, having a discussion with the anaesthetist about Australia and NZ.  The last thing I remember was singing away to the Christmas tunes .. and then next thing I know, I'm waking up back in my private room with big boobies!  I had no pain whatsoever (this was mainly due to the large amounts of pain killers I had been given), and couldn't believe I finally had boobs!

MERRY CHRISTMAS
and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I would like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Another year has ended, and wow has it gone so fast.  I hope Santa brings you all you would like (if you have been good), and you get to spend time with all your friends and family over the festive period - that's what Christmas is about afterall.

I won't be online much over the Christmas period as I am going into hospital for an operation.  After what seems like forever, of thinking about it and researching it, I have finally booked in for a breast enlargement.  My operation is tomorrow, so wish me luck.  I'm a little bit anxious, but more excited than anything, what a fantastic Christmas present!  (Santa Clause must be a boob man for bringing me such a fab gift.. he he).  I will keep you all updated on my progress and healing, as well as 'exclusive' first pictures (don't get excited guys... I'll be clothed!)  ;o)

I have an exciting new sponsor to announce in the New Year, so keep checking back for the news!

DURING ROUTINE                      EVENING JUDGING - SIDE CHEST

16 September 2006

Over the last couple of weeks I have been beavering away trying to get myself ready for the BNBF Britain Finals on 01 October.  Two weeks to go tomorrow.. very scary.. not sure if I'm going to be ready or not, but I'll just keep going as hard as I can and see what happens.

I have teamed up with the wonderful Jo Stewart, 4 x Ms New Zealand (www.muscle-xpo.co.nz).  Jo is currently preparing for the 2006 Masters Worlds in Sicily, and has found the time to help me with my training and diet.. and nagging emails! ha ha.  Jo is an amazing lady, and I feel so priviliged that she has taken me on board.

Jo Stewart - 4 x Ms New Zealand

So I have been on my new programme and diet for nearly 2 weeks, and I am noticing huge changes already.  Bring on the next 2 weeks I say!  With Jo's gruelling leg workout she has devised for me, I'm going to be requiring a wheelchair!

30 August 2006

Sorry there haven't been any updates of late, I have been away on holiday.  Biggest news that I didn't get to update you with before I went away is that I won the BNBF Northern Miss Figure Title.  Below is a photo taken backstage after the win, cowgirl hat and all!  I think it's set a precedent, and now quite a few competitors are incoporating props into their evening routines in the BNBF, which is great!  More entertainment for the paying audience.

So I have had my holiday dash for the year, went to Portugal (Villamoura) for a week of training and relaxation by the pool/beach, then I was rubbing shoulders with the Pharaohs in Egypt.  Did no training though, was too hot (excuses, excuses), but I made myself feel better with all the walking we were doing.  ;o)  Back at work for two days, and then I was off to Rome, Italy for four days, which was fabulous .. a lot of stairs, a lot of walking, and a lot of taking part in the local culture (i.e. eating!).  Back to reality now, and the finals are drawing ever closer, so I am head down tail up at the moment in the gym!  I'll try and get the rest of the site updated over the next week or so, and will keep you in the know of my road to the finals.

Happy training!!

15 July 2006

One day to go to the BNBF Northern.  Got up this morning feeling quite dry.  Drank about 10 litres of water yesterday right up until bed time.  Had my oats this morning and about an hour and a half later felt really tight and full in my upper body.  I'm not as conditioned in my leg/glute area as I wanted to be, but hopefully I can dial this in for the finals.  I found out there's only 2 in my class tomorrow, so I have already qualified for the final, although it is always much nicer to have a few girls up on stage to compete against, and natter to backstage.

Pretty relaxing day today, will go through my routine a few times to keep it in my head, and will drop my water about 5pm.

Roll on tomorrow!!

10 July 2006

Well it's been a busy few weeks! (Well, more like nearly six weeks!).  The competition season is well under way with a lot of the natural qualifiers been and gone.  (Results to be posted soon!  Promise!)

A good friend of mine, Dave Pownall, competed in his first show on 02 July - BNBF Welsh, he took the lightweight title, and went on to claim the overall title aswell.  Dave has a very impressive physique with amazing shoulders and V taper.  When he gives up some pics I'll post some up here.  In the meantime, if you check out the BNBF website you can check out the show report and photos.

Just under a week to go to my first show.  Feeling tired and hungry, but hopefully it will all be worth it.  I'm not too sure how I'm going to look compared to last year, we'll just have to see I suppose!  Watch this space!

29 May 2006

Back from Scotland this evening, and a big CONGRATULATIONS to Crow and Mikey who both did brilliantly.  Mikey took third in a very tough novice class, with the top four being invited to the Britain.  I didn't even recognise him when he come out on stage.  His posing was polished to perfection, right down to his smile.  He owned the stage during his routine - absolutely nailed it.  Mikey also took Best Male Presentation - very well deserved!  Crow came 2nd in her class, now off to the Britain also.  We're very proud of you chick, you did so well to get up there, and now you have the bug, we're going to see you up on stage all year!

26 May 2006

Injury is coming along well, I am back into light jogging and cycling.  'Normal' walking is OK, but still a bit of a strain on a high incline walk.  So now I am hoping to do the BNBF Northern, which is OK as that's just up the road for me ... nice and local.  This is where I competed in my first ever show, so it will be nice to go back there, and hopefully this time take the first place instead of second.  Depending on how I do there I will also do the BNBF Central and NPA Southern.  7 weeks to go ... please let me stay injury free!

Off up to Scotland this weekend to watch the BNBF Scottish qualifier in Edinburgh.  This show is always a cracker, and the crowd atmosphere is brilliant.  Best of luck to my friend Mikey Craig is competing in his first ever show in the novice class, and also to my special friend Crow competing in the Ms Physique - also her first show.  Get up there, enjoy yourselves and knock 'em dead!

11 May 2006

Well, no evaluation needed at 4 weeks out.  Last night I had a bad injury whilst playing touch rugby...Running around on a lovely warm evening at touch rugby last night ... My quads were a little bit tight after my leg session the day before, but after having got there late, didn't have much time for a warm up (my warm up consisting of running from the changing room to the field I was supposed to be playing on). Took my place on the field, and 30 seconds in ....took the ball for a sprint up the sideline (when I say sprint.. I use the term loosely...) and bang - the dreaded twinge ... thinking 'oh it'll be OK', I'll sub off and have a bit of a stretch ... didnt work ... but being too stubborn tried to carry on playing, (ever seen someone run with a straight leg?) Made it through the first game.  Second game starts, sweet I'll be OK ... afterall, I lasted the first game ... silly me decides to go for an intercept and BANG! someone shot me in the leg! Collapsing to the ground in complete agony, wanting to cry but not wanting to be bummed out in front of all the people... Couldn't walk. GUTTED! Iced and iced it last night, woke up this morning feeling a little bit better, slight bruising ... but no leg training for a while, no cycling, no stepper, no incline walks/running ...

Physio thinks it will be about 3 weeks before I can fully get back into cardio/leg training with my injury ... fingers crossed it's sooner than that... 7.5 weeks out I can't afford to have 3 weeks off cardio/leg days ....  'doh!!

10 May 2006

Have finally found some time to add some more info to the site, the diet page will be coming soon (promise!) and I will be updating my training page too.

When I got back from NZ at the end of March, the lovely Kimberley Anne Jones and co. organised an evening to meet Iris Kyle.  I was lucky enough to be invited, and once I figure out how to put photos on my news page, I'll let you all see.

7.5 weeks to go to my first show of the year.  Diet isn't really going according to plan, so I will evaluate myself 4 weeks out and see if I will still do the BNBF Welsh or not.  Fingers crossed!

Latest Additions to my Supplement Cupboard

I have started using Smart-tec Performance Nutrition's XLR8, a pre-workout drink.  It has loads in it (check out the Powerhouse Finess website on the links page).  I've only been using it a few days, but already have noticed a big difference with my training sessions.  Especially legs last night!  I've even toyed with the idea of taking it before I go out dancing on Saturday night.  ;o)

I'm also trying PHD's new whey protein powder - it's absolutely delicious - and I've quite a fussy tongue when it comes to protein powders.  It also has added BCAA's and Glutamine too.  I'm using it in the morning in my porridge, and in the afternoons and post workout.

31 March 2006

Hi all!  Well, I completely fell off the 'diet train' whilst on holiday at home in NZ, succumbing to the wonderful delights of NZ food and ice cream.  I managed to keep up with my training, training at my old gym Fitness Plus in Manukau.  My morning cardio was going for rides along the beach - who could say no that?

When I got back (a few days ago, so if there are any spelling errors, please blame the jet lag), I reassessed the situation, and have decided to pull out of the BNBF Scottish Qualifier and the NPA Yorkshire Qualifier I was planning to do at the end of May, early June respectively.  I am now focusing on the BNBF and NPA Welsh qualifiers at the start of July, and the BNBF Northern.  Hopefully I can stay on the train this time, and Easter won't derail me too much!

I'm off to the SENI Show in Birmingham on May 06, so if anyone is going to be there, don't be shy to come and say hello.  I'll also be going to watch the Nabba North West show in Southport on 23 April.

Take care and train hard!

24 February 2006

Preparation for the contest season is well under way, with an approximate count of approximately 42 chicken breasts consumed ....approximately 60 litres of water (which won't be helping to contribute to the imposing water shortage in the UK) ... and a few too many early morning gym sessions.  My training is in full swing, and it feels (looks) like I've added a bit of size to my shoulders in the off season (here's hoping), I've also added a bit of size to my butt too... 'doh!  I'll keep you all updated on how the training/diet is going.  Hope you're all well!

Love Truds
